Carlos!

last year's view
The cleaning guy’s name is Carlos.
I thought I’d be leaving too early to see him today, but my friend S was nice enough to give me and my 2 boxes of art and books and stuff a ride home, and she doesn’t get out of work until after 6. Tomorrow I have to hand in my badge, so I’ll definitely be gone by the time he shows up.
The Leaving is Surreal

flag of the whiskey rebellion
Still at work, totally sleep depped. Depped: I say it, but I know it isn’t a word. Meh.
I just said goodbye to the man who cleans the office every night. We’ve talked a lot randomly over the years… he’s been working here as long as I have, and I’m often the only person left in the office when he’s making the rounds. I’ve worked so late so many times, he finally stopped asking me to turn out the 2nd floor lights on my way out the door.
One Day in NY
2009.11.01

arrival
I just got off the bus from NY, where I was on a brief adventure to check out my new apartment, catch up with an old friend, and visit my bf. I took Megabus both ways, and both times was at the front of the line, thus getting the best seat on board: the very front right corner seat on the second floor, with the huge windows in front of you and to the side, an outlet for your laptop, and nobody directly behind you. I took Bonine on the way down and Dramamine on the way back, and I hope to remember to always do so in the future… I could actually read emails while going over bumps! Me, Captain Carsick! It was the most pleasurable tolerable couple of bus rides I’ve ever had, I think.
Busy Autumn

outside the boston book festival
Oh, Autumn. You make it so hard to leave New England.
Last weekend I went with RB to the Boston Book festival, and even though we were left with the lousy distinction of being the very first people who didn’t get in to see Ken Burns and Scout Tufankjian, we did end up having a pretty productive day. We made it to the book signing, RB made progress on her grad school application, I hit the going out of business (*sniff*) sale at the store for wicked tall women (need business casual for the new job!), and we had lunch, tea, and crumpets with jam and devon cream. Good day.
